ABSTRACT

An overview of HYCOM activities at SHOM will be presented. These activities range from research to operational systems. In France, Mercator-Ocean is the operational system that provides open-ocean forecast. At SHOM, only regional and coastal models are developped covering areas of interest. The final purpose is to have a forecast system which provides oceanographic data for both civil and military uses. These areas of interest and their ocean processes (internal tide, surge, outflows,...) will be introduced. To well model these processes, numerical studies are conducted, including downscaling, coupling,... At last, forecast operational systems are progressively set up. Today, oceanic data over bay of Biscay and the French part of the Mediterranean sea are displayed and distributed on the website data.shom.fr.
