The QuikSCAT projects swath data sets are sub-sampled to remove data
fields that are less likely to be used (e.g., most of the header,
unselected ambiguities, and engineering data). Retained fields are
wind speed, wind direction, time, latitude, and longitude. The
scatterometer winds are calibrated to a height
of 10 m. The data sets are also regrouped from the original 'one
file per orbit' to 'one file per day'. There is no modification of
the data. The goal is to provide essential data in a more
user-friendly format. The data set should be considered research
quality.
NetCDF libraries are required to access the data, and can be obtained from
UNIDATA.
From this interface, you can download individual files, files grouped by
month, or the entire collection of gridded SeaWinds on QuikSCAT data
produced here at COAPS.
