My research focuses on the physical oceanography of continental margins, where shelf-scale processes have complicated interactions with topography and stratification at the nearshore boundary as well as the shelfbreak. Recent and ongoing projects include the coastal response to near-resonant forcing by sea breeze/land breeze near the critical latitude of 30N, storm surge propagation in coastal North Carolina, and characterizing turbulence on the shelf of the Georgia Bight. Working with the Northern Gulf Institute, I will examine the interaction of nearshore winds and currents in the Gulf of Mexico using a joint modeling/observational approach.
