Dynamical Downscaling
This is the raw (no bias correction for the full fields) real-time forecast produced using the COAPS global and regional spectral models (Cocke and LaRow, 2000; Shin et al., 2005) for the winter and summer crop-growing seasons for the southeastern United States.
The COAPS global and regional spectral models are initialized using the NCEP initial conditions and the bias-corrected CFS daily forecast SSTs from four CFS forecasts members initialized on the last day of the preceding month.
The COAPS global model's soil moisture is physically initialized using TRMM 3-hourly merged precipitation rates (Boisserie et al., 2009)
The horizontal resolution is T63 (approximately 1.875 degrees) for the global model, and roughly 0.2 degrees for the regional model over the Southeast. The global model provides the boundary conditions for the regional model.
