The Center for Ocean - Atmospheric Prediction Studies (COAPS)
has constructed a simulation of the devastating tsunami that struck the
Indian Ocean on December 26, 2004. The tsunami is simulated using the Navy Coastal Ocean
Model with a grid size of 1800x1120 and approximately 5km grid spacing. The
simulation uses a semi-implicit time integration scheme with a 24 second time
step, and requires less than 10 minutes on 20 processors of the FSU IBM SP4
Eclipse supercomputer.
