ABSTRACT

The HYCOM model has been used to model the Channel, Bay of Biscay, West Portugal and gulf of Cadiz area. Several campaigns at sea were conducted to get data in order to validate the model. Specific physical processes have been selected, with a focus on coastal ones. The model has been improved for a better representation of the latter. HYCOM is able to reproduce most processes quite accurately. The presentation will also advertize two new projects : one -EPIGRAM- including many french laboratories aims at comparing the results of different models over the Channel and bay of Biscay, and the second one aims at coupling HYCOM with a wave model to build an integrated operational model for wave dynamics and ocean circulation.
