Comparison of collocated SeaWinds on QuikSCAT and research vessel wind directions. Collocation criteria are 25 km and 20 minutes (usually 30 s). The statistics apply only to correctly selected ambiguities. The uncertainty corresponds to one standard deviation. The green dashed line represents an ideal fit, the red dashed lines indicate 180 degree errors, and the yellow dashed lines indicate 90 degree errors. Errors near 180 and 90 degrees are commonly due to incorrect ambiguity selection. Note that these errors are typically associated with low wind speeds.
