Our 2008 OVWST meeting will be held in Seattle, Washington, on 19 to 21 November 2008. While the most prominent component of these meetings is often science results, we are also interested in operational activities, related engineering, scatterometry-related products, calibration/validation, and international collaboration regarding ocean vector winds.

On this website, users can register for the meeting and submit abstracts for oral and poster presentations. The deadline for abstract submission is 12 November 2008.

Meeting Goals

  1. A statement of scientific benefits associated with XOVWM.
  2. Plans for ocean vector science in a post-QSCAT era.
    • Other scatterometer missions (status and prospects)
    • Data continuity - requirements from a variety of perspectives
    • Climate data sets for wind and stress
  3. Develop standards for vetting level 3 products
    • Find volunteers to work on vetting standards
    • Develop a plan for posting information that will help users of these products
    • What can be done to improve the ease of use and the likelihood that the products will be used for an appropriate application?
  4. Discuss new products (e.g., stress)
  5. Develop (if needed) an improved definition of equivalent neutral winds.
  6. Updates on the latest science and operational results

Other OVWST matters

  1. Development of a searchable, on line bibliography of scatterometry publications.
    • Include list of all OVWST publications, abstracts and links to pubs
    • Other scatterometer publications
    • When the bibliography is on line, please check it and let me know if any of your publications are missing.
  2. Special collection of scatterometry publications
    • The above compilation will be used to examine the feasibility of a special issue.
  3. A book on scatterometry
    • Several of us have had requests to work on a scatterometry text.
    • Ernesto and I are thinking of an edited collection including the history, physics, and science applications of scatterometry
  4. Future meetings
    • I am planning on routinely having future meetings in mid to late May
    • May 18 to 20 for the 2009 meeting
  5. Past meetings
    • I have copies of the presentations from the last two meetings
    • I would like to put these presentations online. If anyone objects to their presentation being publicly available, please let me know and I will list only the title and authors.
