Call for Papers

NOAA's National Weather Service Climate Services Division, in conjunction with NOAA's Office of Global Programs, Florida State University's Center for Ocean-Atmospheric Prediction Studies (COAPS) and the Florida Climate Center, Office of State Climatologist, Dr. James J. O'Brien, is hosting the Second Climate Prediction Applications Science Workshop (CPASW, previously the Climate Prediction Assessments Workshop) at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory near Florida State University, March 9-11, 2004.

The meeting goals are to identify new climate prediction applications research, promote interactions between climate-sensitive integrated research service communities, and assess impacts of climate forecasts on environmental-societal interactions. The technical challenges of making the climate predictions or incorporating them in other models will not be addressed.

Presentations for this conference are solicited from the community on new research and applications, in any stage of completion, that address the use of and/or requirements for climate information, especially predictions for decision makers. Other papers of interest include those that explore the use and impacts of climate predictions, socio-economic benefits of climate predictions, and other related topics.

Interested parties should submit a letter of intent to participate in the workshop to Ruth Pryor, Associate in Research, COAPS, at, pryor@coaps.fsu.edu no later than December 15, 2003. Interested speakers should submit abstracts electronically to Ruth Pryor by January 31, 2004.

There is limited funding available to support non-federal employee participation in the workshop, particularly for graduate students and junior scientists. Please contact Ruth Pryor with written justification and estimated costs if travel support is necessary to attend the workshop.
